peacekeepers & you
hello little lightshines! the peacekeeping team exists for one reason, and that is to make sure everyone is following the rules and that everyone on shine is safe. we've been dealing with many different peacekeeping cases lately, mostly because of the summertime rush. now, many of you ask: what does the peacekeeping team actually do? its very simple. they are the ones that handle any cases of misconduct on shine, any code ripping going on, improper credits for codes, as well as multiple accounts, and inappropriate usernames. this is a general announcement to kind of clear these things up, and give all the members insight as to how cases are handled.

first and foremost, all the peacekeepers, coding mods, global mods, and admins take a stance on any case that's brought to our attention. everyone in these groups will get a say so, right now, there are fourteen staff members that will look over any given case. if someone is personally involved with any aspect of a case, we remove ourselves; you're getting a full, unbiased set of opinions. its like with anything else, there's a series of checks and balances.

with things such as coding theft, we take that very seriously; we only deal with cases of coding theft if the codes being stolen are either on shine or are directly from a site owned by a staff member. that's our only jurisdiction, and we apologize that we can't help anyone further on matters off site. actual codes are combed thoroughly for similarities; most of which are easily passed off, some of which are not. if the visual outcome is identical, or almost identical, to a piece of coding here on shine, that also constitutes a form of ripping--it is a lesser infraction, and some coders won't mind inspiration being drawn from their codes. however, if a coder does have an issue with it, just like with anything else, we expect you to respect a coder's wishes. coding is something that people work very hard on and, like artwork, it hurts to have something taken without your permission.

other things we handle are misconduct (talking about inappropriate things in the chatbox or somewhere on the site, harassment, bullying, etc) and inappropriate usernames. with the usernames, we understand that you may not find something offensive, but we only contact someone if another member has come to us, feeling uncomfortable. multiple accounts are the last things we deal with, and are usually not something to make a big deal out of; we understand that sometimes you lose your logins for an account and need to make a new one. we're all only human.

the most important thing to remember is that we're not attacking you when we send you a message; the tone we take in security PMs is that of professionalism. we invite everyone to discuss with us their side of the story. coding theft is taken much more seriously, but the ability to talk with us is still there, and we encourage you to defend yourself. however, please be responsible enough to own up if you've made a mistake. some people have been put off by the way we word our PMs; we apologize if you are offended or feel attacked, but any other website on the planet has particular procedures and pre-written messages to send out in the event of any actuality. we, like any other site, are under no obligation to warn you beforehand as, i'm sue anyone can understand, that gives anyone the opportunity to remove any offending content. even jcink maintains the right to shut down sites randomly and with no prior warning. again, we understand if this may seem harsh to some, but we're doing our best to protect the coders of shine and to do them justice the only way we can.

we hope that you can all understand the things that the security team does here and, if you have any questions regarding this announcement, or how the staff team handles security cases, please contact an admin.
